How to Fix Audio Issues in Microsoft Teams

Audio problems in Microsoft Teams — from echo and static to “no audio device found” errors — are among the most common issues in virtual meetings. This guide helps you quickly diagnose and fix the most frequent Teams audio issues across Windows, Mac, and mobile.

Axio Networks Tip: Persistent audio issues are often a sign of driver or settings misconfiguration. Our team can remotely diagnose and fix audio and device problems across your organization’s devices.

Quick Fixes to Try First

  • Leave and rejoin the meeting.
  • Restart Teams: Close completely and reopen.
  • Check that your microphone and speakers are plugged in and not muted.
  • Ensure Teams has permission to access your microphone in your device’s privacy settings.

Fix: No Audio Device Found

  1. Click your profile icon in Teams → SettingsDevices.
  2. Under Audio devices, select the correct microphone and speakers.
  3. If no devices appear, check your system settings:
Windows: Settings → System → Sound → verify input/output devices.
Mac: System Preferences → Sound → check Input and Output.
  4. Reconnect USB or Bluetooth devices if needed.
✅ Teams should now detect your audio device.

Fix: Echo During Calls

  • Use headphones instead of open speakers (open speakers cause echo feedback).
  • Ask other participants to check their audio — echo is usually caused by one person’s setup.
  • In Teams → Settings → Devices, enable Noise Suppression and Echo Cancellation.

Fix: Can’t Hear Others (Or They Can’t Hear You)

  1. Check that you’re not muted in Teams (microphone icon in meeting toolbar).
  2. Check the volume in Teams and on your device.
  3. Test the device: In Teams Settings → Devices, use “Make a test call”.
  4. On Windows: Check that the correct audio output is selected in the system tray volume control.
  5. On Mac: Go to System Preferences → Sound → Output and select the right device.

Fix: Microphone Not Working

  1. Check microphone privacy settings:
Windows 10/11: Settings → Privacy → Microphone → enable for Teams.
Mac: System Preferences → Security & Privacy → Microphone → check Teams.
  2. Update your audio drivers (Windows: Device Manager → Sound, video and game controllers).
  3. Try a different USB port for the microphone/headset.

Fix: Audio Issues on Mobile

  • Check that Teams has microphone permission in your phone’s app settings.
  • Toggle Bluetooth off and on if using a wireless headset.
  • Force close and reopen the Teams app.
  • Check that your volume is not at zero.
